If you’re interested in working as a Mental Health Coordinator, this is your final step!

At the certification level, aspiring Mental Health Coordinators from around the world are trained to respond to mental health challenges and crises in production, address portrayals of mental health challenges in the media, and integrate into creative workplaces to support wellbeing for casts, crews, and audiences.

From film to theatre, documentaries to academia, participants are prepared to market themselves and begin working right away after training with a global cohort and expanding their understanding of what it means to provide support.

This is a ten-week certification program that features tools to uplift creative, ethical storytelling, crisis management, access needs, and so much more. Specific topics in recent cohorts have included:

  • Appropriate Interventions for Mental Health Challenge, Crisis, and Emergencies

  • Risk Analysis for Scripts

  • Emerging Standards and Better Practices

  • Ethical Portrayals of Mental Health on Stage and Screen

  • Business and Logistics of Mental Health Coordinating

  • Working with specialized populations, i.e. minors, the queer community, and more

  • Real-world solutions for access in the creative industry

It is offered annually.

Course Expectations

In addition to the ten synchronous classes, participants will be asked to gain outside trainings in topics such as DEIAJ, secondary traumatic stress, suicide prevention, trauma support, substance use, and other key topics relating to mental health challenges in the entertainment industry. Live, on-camera attendance with active participation is required for a minimum of eight out of the ten class sessions. Participants will also engage in an independently secured capstone project during which they will receive mentorship from AMHC. Successful completion of this program results in certification as a professional Mental Health Coordinator by the Association of Mental Health Coordinators and enrolls the participant in AMHC’s Certification Circle, an ongoing, international network of support and resource sharing.
